I'm sitting at a hostel in downtown Chicago realizing how small I am in this world. Two girls who just met are showing each other on a large map of the world where they're each from, two boys dressed head to toe in Ralph Lauren Polo are playing table tennis speaking a language I'm guessing is German. There's a play going on in the community room with people from across the globe. And everyone is...happy.
I know, me? In a hostel? You're probably having the same reaction everyone did when I told them where I was staying. I think my mom shit her pants. I'm more of a nice hotel kind of girl but staying in a hostel has always been something I wanted to do...I just thought it would be somewhere in Europe but I guess I had to start somewhere. I had a hotel room booked for tonight but last minute decided I would try the hostel. I did my research and found one I felt comfortable with. So after spending the last 3 days at the Hyatt at Hamburger University in a king size plush bed and 40 inch flat screen tv, I'm sharing a room with 9 other girls and sleeping in a bunk bed. (Hoping to our Lord and Savior there's no bed bugs.)
I met by bunk mate, Pia, fresh out of college glowing with freedom. She's from Germany and is cute as a button. She's been travelling the U.S. since January and will be here until July with nothing but a backpack. Something I wish I would've done after college but I never got enough courage to do it. I spent the afternoon walking around downtown Chicago observing everything going on around me, the people, the traffic, the hustle and bustle.
It's interesting that one single day can put so many things into perspective. (I swear I'm not high) And maybe it technically wasn't one day...I spent the last 3 days networking and learning from other woman who do my job across the country--I met some amazing people who I now consider my friends. But today I was able to have some down time and put it all into perspective. I told myself that this year I was going to do something about the things I want to change in my life. I started a new healthy lifestyle (more to come about that), I moved to a cheaper place in hopes of buying my own house one day and I'm striving for more in my career...so far all of those are paying off. Next up...traveling to Europe, I don't know how or when but I'm going to make it happen. My friend lives in Italy so I've got a place to stay and a tour guide. Now someone just needs to buy me a plane ticket!
Life is good people, no matter how many bad days you or I have, it's good. My friends will get here tomorrow and I'll go back to being me, but for tonight, I'm just a shy girl soaking it all in.

Fifty Shades of the Unattainable Man
I started the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy last week, I've already read two of the books. I actually started the second one last night and finished it this morning. Side note, these are the times I love that I am single and childless, I can read for 3 hours straight if I want. Anyways...back to Mr. Grey. I'm sure if you're a woman, you've heard of the books, if not, you have too many of those responsibilities I currently lack. The books center around Christian Grey, a gorgeous bizillanior who is a dominant, and Anastasia Steele, an innocent virgin who doesn't know the first thing about ball gags and whips. They fall madly in love and try to figure out a relationship that works for both of them. There's lots of sexin', I mean lots. I classify it as full on porn. NO complaints here. But, I don't think that's what makes these books so appealing to woman.
First of all, the man is loaded, handsome and charitable. Second, he worships this woman, she feels safe with him. Third, and this is the kicker, he loves her SO much, she's able to change him. I mean for freaks sake, woman love that. How many times have you yourself or someone you know, thought they were capable of changing a man? Guilty. You forge on convincing yourself how amazing it will be if you can be the person to do it. We all know this is bullshit, just doesn't happen. Enter Fifty Shades of Grey. The author puts you in this magical fairytale but unlike most fairytales this one is full of hot sex. Unfortunately, instead of making me horny, it made me want a boyfriend.
There will be a movie, for sure. My vote for an actor to play Christian Grey is Mark Wahlberg...I'm pretty sure it would need go straight to DVD release as adult toys are probably frowned upon in move theaters.

Do You Ever Wonder
If you were in your car and it was about to go off of a bridge...what you would do? Would you have time to process everything? Would you know to unbuckle your seat belt and roll your window down? Was just pondering it on the way home while I was stuck in traffic, on a bridge, in the snow. Let's hope that's not how I meet Jesus.
Why in the name of Suzanne Sommers, Chris Brown was allowed on the Grammy's and not only that but that they let him win a grammy and perform TWICE. PUKE. (The best tweet I saw..."Modern Family" actor Eric Stonestreet posted, "Are Chris Brown's mom and dad CBS and Grammy Brown?")
If you can watch this entire video without looking away or vomiting. Enjoy!

COTW
It's been awhile since I've done a COTW. Since it's Wednesday...I'm paying tribute to one of my favorite shows! No, I'm not 16...but I can't help but LOVE OTH. It's the final season...I foresee lots of tears and possibly a mental breakdown during and after the last episode. I mean come on!

I Failed
I really did have good intentions of keeping up with my blog. I honestly don't know what happened. Actually I do. December happened. It was a clusterfuck of chaos for me. Even typing about it seems tiring, so I won't. I will say that January and February are relatively calm for me. And coming off of an insanely busy 2011 it feels pretty darn good. While I can't promise daily blogs, my goal is to blog weekly.
Time to watch Ricky Gervais slam Hollywood...LOVE IT! P.s. that lady Brad Pitt dates looks like a candy cane.

Plenty of Nothing
Have you tried online dating? I can't tell you how many times I've heard that. Usually my response is something like...No, I don't want my skin to become someone's lamp shade or I'm not keen on being sold into the white slave trade. (It does exist by the way.) But in all seriousness, online dating wasn't really my thing, I'm such a people person or at least fake being one, that it didn't seem like the right fit for me. I can tell within minutes of meeting someone in person-male or female-if I'm going to like them or not. My intuition has never steered me wrong. So how would I fare with this? I caved..after two friends having success from a site, one just moved in with her man and one getting married in August, I thought...why not? And really would white slavery be all that bad?
So I went with Plenty of Fish because that's what these two girls used. At least that's what they said. After my two week trial I'm pretty sure they lied to me. It should be called Plenty of Creepy Non-English Speaking Sex Seeking I Say I Want a Relationship But I Really Don't dot com. I mean seriously. When did spelling become a thing of the past? When did a simple, hi, how are you, become non-existent and replaced with hey sexy or send me a pic? Really? Yes guy taking a pic of yourself in your bathroom mirror with your shirt off and lame sunglasses on, I would LOVE to send you a pic. I have no problem with other nationalities, races, religions, etc. but you must speak English. That's not saying you can't have an accent but I have to be able to understand what the hell you're typing/saying to me. Someone should have a class for these men and teach them that verbs and nouns are in fact, not interchangeable. Am I being mean? Possibly.
So..after two weeks, I got off that site quicker than you can say sexting. I will stick to single life and dreaming that I will one day marry an NFL player.
